Are you struggling to come up with unique and compelling content for your blog? Or maybe you’re tired of churning out generic posts that aren’t exactly getting the resounding feedback from your audience that you’d hoped for?
Enter AI. Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool in helping you create blog posts that capture the attention of your readers without staring at a blinking cursor trying to come up with ideas for hours on end!
But as a copywriter and content writer myself, I’ve had one big question looming in my mind as I’ve tested AI tools for my own content and my clients: How can I use AI to write content that isn’t generic?
Because it seems that while these tools are making content creation so much easier, they’re also at risk of making it so much more cookie-cutter. And as a business owner who wants to stand out from the crowd, you sure don’t want cookie-cutter-kind-of content!
In this blog post, I’ll explore how to use AI to craft non-generic blog posts that drive your goals. I’ll also touch on where I believe you need to use your judgement as the expert and how you can edit your posts to make them more compelling for your reader.
Let’s dive in!
First of all, you need to understand the goal you want to achieve with your content. If you create content for the sake of having consistent content, you may have a high volume of output, but it won’t actually move the needle in your business.
Here are a few ways you can define your goals:
Once you have defined your goals, use AI tools to help you create a content outline that aligns with them.
For example, if I wanted to focus my content on launch copy in anticipation of an upcoming program launch about this exact topic, here’s how I could ask AI to generate some ideas for me.
From there, I would select a topic that resonates with my brand and my audience (note: if necessary, I may tweak it slightly to reflect my brand values) and input it into AI to generate an outline of the blog post.
While we’re going to see a much larger output of content, my concern is that the quality of the content will significantly drop.
Does this matter?
Well, it’s up to you.
If you want to stand out from your competition as the go-to choice for your dream clients, I believe it does matter.
Notice: No one knows your stories except you. AI can’t read your mind (…yet 😉).
Here’s a question I always ask my retainer clients before I create their content.
Can you tell us about any interesting stories that you’d like us to include in your blog posts or email newsletters?
This doesn’t have to be something HUGE (little, everyday stories are great too – think about something that happened during your week), just something we can use to connect with your audience.
Ask yourself this question and see if it sparks any ideas of stories you could weave into your blog post.
A big question I’ve had to ask myself when I create content outlines using AI is “Do I really believe that?” There’s a lot of “guru” advice in the industry. What sets you apart from your competitors is your point of view.
What about your process or approach is unique, different, special, or better, than your competitors?
If you believe everything they do and do it the same way they do, why should someone choose you?
Hot tip: Ask AI to generate ideas that challenge conventional wisdom in your industry and offer a fresh perspective.
Your brand voice is what will make your blog post engaging and memorable. Your brand voice refers to the tone, style, and personality that make your brand unique and recognisable to your audience.
Of course, you can ask AI to edit your blog post to include these elements, but you need to know what they are in the first place so that you can give the AI tool great input.
This will add credibility and demonstrate the practical application of your ideas. Client and student case studies will be the most beneficial to bolster your credibility, as they demonstrate your expertise is proven.
You can also use examples to illustrate specific points in your blog post (hot tip: ask AI to give you examples for specific points!).
Now that you have written your blog post with the help of AI, it’s time to edit it. While AI can help you with generating content ideas and even writing some of the content, it’s by no means a substitute for human editing.
Here are a few tips for editing your content:
Incorporating AI into your content creation process can help you generate ideas and speed up your writing. However, it’s important to remember that AI is not a substitute for creativity or quality writing. By using storytelling, busting industry myths, weaving in your brand voice, and including tangible examples, you can create non-generic content that stands out from the competition. And don’t forget to edit, edit, edit!
