I’ve felt so uninspired by this whole business thing lately. Seriously bored.
It may have something to do with the fact that I have a super energetic 10-month old and barely have any time to do, well, anything 🤣 (mummas, ya feel me?)
But I think the problem lies here — I’ve created a business that looks like everyone else’s business. A business that has the same kind of offer, the same kind of marketing, the same step-by-step sales process.
I’ve starved myself of creativity in the name of “automation and scaling” and it’s become completely snoozeworthy (yes, I did just make up that word.)
Don’t get me wrong, there’s great value in implementing a “formula”, so to speak, that’s worked well for someone else and that’s generally effective in the online marketing industry. And to be successful at that one thing, to give it a good hard crack, you’ve got to be laser focused and go all in on it.
So I did that. I focused entirely on marketing my membership in one particular way. Don’t get me wrong, I love educating! I find it personally rewarding teaching business owners how to write copy — and I’ll keep doing it! But I’ve done the “selling” part in such a formulaic way that it’s become stale.
I’ve been asking myself, “is it OK to pivot?” After all, no-one wants to be the person who’s ALWAYS chopping and changing and who can’t stay consistent with one thing. I think part of the reason is that I’ve been afraid to try new things at the cost of “splitting my focus”. Look, there’s power in going all in on ONE thing — I’ve found great clarity in doing that in the past. It’s great for a season, especially when you’re new to business and need to get consistent cashflow and clients. But the season that I’m in with my business right now requires more. Or maybe it’s my brain — it just needs more.
I’ve dreamt of new, exciting ways to serve my community, to serve you… but I guess I’ve felt worried that if I put something out there, I might just hear… crickets (ever feel like that?). And oh myyyy, what would the other business owners think if my thing didn’t work? That would be soooo embarrassing. 🤣🤣
But would it? Would it really? Nope. No one cares about what I’m doing as much as ME. And plus, when I started my business, I didn’t worry about what other people thought, I just did the dang thing!
And now, I want to experiment again. I am itching to share value in new ways. In ways that may not have a clear 5-step plan for profit, but in ways that feel fun to me and really genuinely helpful for you.
And while education is one of my favourite things, because it gives business owners access to conversion copywriting knowledge & support at a fraction of the price of 1:1 work, I’ve missed service-based work. So much. There’s nothing like delivering a wonderful end product to a client — whether that’s well-written website words or launch emails or sales page copy. I love seeing my clients’ faces light up on the other side of a Zoom call. I love hearing them say “the handover call was my favourite part.” Or “you sound more like me than if I wrote it myself”. That is SO satisfying!
Soooo I’m bringing back my services and introducing a fun, new way to help coaches, course creators, and agency owners month after month after month. You can take a sneak peek at them over on my services page connectioncopy.co/services (and yes, that’s a new brand name, baby!)
— BUT I’ll be sharing more details about what sparked me to rebrand my business in the first place and my heart behind it now next month on the pod, so stay tuned for that!
But for now, I just want to share what’s being going on in my head in the hopes that it serves as a reminder to you that it’s ok to pivot, to change, to shake things up, to turn left when everyone is turning right, to do the thing your heart feels excited about, to experiment, to tread your own damn path. Feel me?
If this resonated with you in ANY way, I’d love to hear about it and chat! Truly, your messages light up my day. So comment and let me know your thoughts. ❤️
Cheering you on, fellow business owner friend.
