I recently made a HUGE pivot in my business after feeling like it was totally snoozeworthy (aka boring) and just didn’t fit my lifestyle and goals after having a baby. (You can hear all about it in my podcast episode, “How I’m making business fun again”.)
Today, I want to pull back the curtain on the rebrand and share my heart for it, as well as a closer look at my offers.
Earlier this year, I was on a walk, taking my baby for an afternoon walk in the pram, listening to podcast episodes when the concept of “connection” hit me.
You see, everyone talks about conversion. Heck, I do. Because without it you’ve just got leads and no sales. But I think the conversation can be so focused on conversion and how to automate this and how to create systems, etc, that the personal side of business is completely stripped. The HEART of business.
I believe that conversion begins with connection. Connection is where someone reads a piece of content and goes “yes, me too.” They relate. They see themselves in your story. Storytelling is part of being human! It’s part of the human experience. Because it creates connection.
I also looked back through survey answers and other voice of customer data I had and saw the number one thing people wanted was for their words, their copy, to connect with ideal clients. They wanted ideal clients to “instantly connect” or to see them as the right person for them.
Connection doesn’t just accidentally happen. It’s intentional. As business owners, we can’t simply know what’s going on inside our ideal clients’ heads. We need to pay attention to them, to ask questions, to listen.
And that’s a BIG part of my signature process — research and discovery, because it allows you to CONNECT with the right people. During this phase, we uncover “its-like-you-read-my-mind” moments that speak directly to your dream client’s soul.
So anyway — that is why connection is SO important to me. & that’s the heart behind the new business name, Connection Copy Co.
It’s not just important to me to create communicate the concept of connection and have it as a part of my process, but it’s also important that I’m creating connection with my clients and students. That plays into the types of offers I’ve structured.
We have two sides to the business — services and education.
On the services side, I added in a new service — Monthly Content Strategy & Management. This is a retainer service. The reason why I wanted to add this in is twofold:
The service has two options:
Content Calendar Strategy
Done-for-you monthly content calendar with titles, hooks & outlines, so you can easily flesh out your hero content yourself.
Full-Suite Content Management
Done-for-you monthly content strategy & written-for-you content delivered to your inbox.
I’ve been working with clients in these ways already and am loving hearing just how EASY this makes their content creation. If you want to learn more, you can do that here: connectioncopy.co/content
I knew I wanted to refresh my website design along with introducing my new brand name, so I had my eye out for a website template that would suit my brand style. I decided on Emma Troy’s Audrey Template for Showit. It was SO easy to implement and start using. Emma has a great range of templates, which you can find here. Emma’s also given me a special code for $100 off and that’s VIPELISE if you want to grab a template!
I really want to highlight that you don’t HAVE to hire a web designer for custom web design to have a well-designed website. Website templates are not only more affordable but they are worth their weight in gold! They generally come with every page you could need, have add ons for sales pages, and include extras like Canva graphics. So they’re a great option if you need something quick, want something more affordable, or don’t feel like you need to go through the custom design process (which can be a long one!). There’s no right or wrong here but it’s great to be aware of the options available to you.
As a conversion copywriter, I write my own copy (duh!). So I went through the process of writing each page of my site. I go through the same system as I do for my 1:1 clients. This involves research and discovery, brand messaging, and writing the words using tried and true conversion copy formulas.
I’m really pleased with how the copy has come together for this version of my website. With my last website, I kind of feel like I rushed a lot of the copywriting just trying to get the site live quick. I always said I’d improve it later, but one thing lead to another and before I knew it, that one day became never. So lesson learned, do it properly the first time, otherwise it’ll never be doing the selling as good as it should be for you.
A few others things to note — I didn’t do a new photoshoot. In fact, I just used the same photos from a really comprehensive couple of shoots I did two years’ ago. While it would be great to have new photos, I actually think the design of Emma’s Audrey template has given these “old” photos a new life — they really shine! So, in saying this, I’m not in a rush to do another photoshoot, but I’ll probably get some updated headshots done soon, and do a more comprehensive shoot sometime next year.
As for my branding, I kept most of it the same, got rid of a few colours that just weren’t working and adopted most of the ones that came with Emma’s Audrey Template. It’s a pre-created brand, so why not?! It works! I also changed my fonts. They just weren’t working very well. They were hard to read. I bought fonts from Jen Wagner. She has some suggested font combinations, which made this process SO easy.
Again, this shows that you don’t have to have custom branding done to run a successful, money-making business. There are so many great options out there that of course include custom branding but also include semi-custom branding, done-for-you branding (that, of course, others might have too), as well as courses that show you how to DIY your branding.
That’s a roundup of my recent rebrand. What did you think? Do you have any questions or thoughts you’d like to share? I’d love to hear them. Comment them below.
